Walking is one of the simplest, and cheapest physical activities to do, and it's 360-degree healthy. It is believed to reduce the risk of breast, cancer, and heart disease, extend life, and prevent diabetes, and obesity in children. It is also one of the most, effective ways to burn calories. But how many people were burned by walking.


According to Timothy Burnett, a kinesiology teacher, at Oregon State University Cascades, walking burns an average of 100 calories per 1.6 kilometers, regardless of speed.  In fact, the faster we walk, the less time it takes to burn the same calories.


This means that if we travel 1.6 kilometers in 12 minutes, we will burn 8.3 calories per minute. while if we take 20 minutes, we will burn 5 calories per minute.  But once you cover the entire trip, the total calories burned will be the same.


However, the calories burned can vary depending, on body weight and type of walk (up, down, stairs, etc.).

  • If your weight is between 54 and 63 kilograms, then in 15 minutes of walking slowly, you can burn about 50 calories, in 30 minutes 100 calories, in one hour 200 calories. With brisk walking, you will burn an average of 95 calories in 15 minutes, 185 calories in 30 minutes, and 370 calories in one hour. With hard walking, you burn about 90 calories in 15 minutes, 180 calories in 30 minutes and 355 calories in one hour. Climbing the stairs 120 calories in 15 minutes, 240 calories in 30 minutes, 500 calories in one hour. Walk on the slopes, 40 calories in 15 minutes, 85 calories in 30 minutes, 165 calories in one hour.


  • If you weigh between 63 and 72 pounds, walking at a moderate pace can burn, an average of 60 calories in 15 minutes, 112 calories in 30 minutes, and 225 calories per hour. Walking brisk, 100 calories in 15 minutes, 214 calories in 30 minutes, 430 calories in 1 hour. Walking uphill, 102 calories in 15 minutes, 204 calories in 30 minutes, 408 calories in one hour.
